VISA FOR AUSTRALIA

Travelers holding the following passports* may follow the instructions to apply for an Australian ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) visa for tourism and business.

  1. One clear copy of the photo/information page from your valid passport. You must have at least 6 months of validity left on the passport beyond your intended stay in Australia. Please note that the copy must be legible or we will not be able to obtain the visa for you. If you have any amendments in your passport, such as a name change or extended validity, you must also furnish a copy of the pages that reflect the changes.

  2. Complete our Australian ETA Visa Processing Order Form.

VISA VALIDITY:

Tourist : Multiple entry good for one year from date of issue, for stays not to exceed 90 days per entry.
Business: Multiple entry good for one year from date of issue, for stays not to exceed 90 days per entry.


CONSULATE FEE:

The Australian government does not charge a fee for the ETA visa.


SERVICE FEE:

5 Business Day Processing: $25.00
2 Business Day Processing: $50.00

You may fax us the information page from your valid passport and the Australian ETA Visa Processing Order Form to us. Our fax number is (713) 821-0145. Please make sure that the copies from your passport are clear. If any of the information is not legible, we will not be able to obtain the visa for Australia. On the Australian ETA Visa Processing Order Form, fill in your complete names, addresses and phone numbers so that we can contact you if any problems should arise. We will send you an invoice with your credit card receipt for the service via First Class Mail. You receiving the invoice is confirmation that you have been registered by the Australian Government.


* Holders of Hong Kong British National (Overseas) (BNO) passports or passports from other countries that are not eligible for ETA visas, the followings are the requirements to obtain a visa for Australia:

FOR TOURIST VISA:

  1. Your actual passport. You must have at least 6 months of validity left on the passport beyond your intended stay in Australia. You must have at least one blank visa page. Amendment pages do not count.

  2. One Tourist Visa Application Form for Australia (Form 48R), completed in full. If the visa application is not completely filled out, signed and dated, we will not be able to submit your documents to the embassy, which will result in significant delays in the processing time.

  3. One Additional Character Declaration (Form 1190).

  4. Two 2" x 2" passport type photographs.

  5. Flight itinerary or copies of your round trip air tickets.

  6. Proof of health insurance with medical coverage valid while traveling abroad.

  7. Hotel confirmation from the hotel you are staying at while in Australia. If visiting friends or family, you must provide contact name, address and telephone number in Australia on a letter outlining your plan in Australia.

  8. Proof of financial support, i.e. bank statements or copies of the last 3 paystubs.

  9. Letter from Employer verifying your employment and stating that you will be returning to the job after the trip; OR Letter from School stating that you have enrolled for current/following semester.

  10. Proof of U.S. status, i.e. copy of green card, valid U.S. visa, Notice of Action, etc.

  11. Letter from applicant explaining purpose of trip and plans for the stay in Australia.

  12. All applicants aged 70 and over must have a "Fit for Travel" certificate completed. This does not need to be completed by a panel physician, but must be filled out be a registered Medical Doctor.

  13. Complete our Visa Processing Order Form.

FOR BUSINESS VISA:

  1. Your actual passport. You must have at least 6 months of validity left on the passport beyond your intended stay in Australia. You must have at least one blank visa page. Amendment pages do not count.

  2. One Business Visa Application Form for Australia (Form 456), completed in full. If the visa application is not completely filled out, signed and dated, we will not be able to submit your documents to the embassy, which will result in significant delays in the processing time.

  3. One Additional Character Declaration (Form 1190).

  4. Two 2" x 2" passport type photographs.

  5. Flight itinerary or copies of your round trip air tickets.

  6. Proof of health insurance with medical coverage valid while traveling abroad.

  13. Business Letter on company letterhead giving details of the nature of visit, including the dates of stay, hotel information and addresses, organization to be visited and a financial guarantee from the company, signed by a senior manager.

The Embassy of Australia reserves the right to request additional information before a visa can be issued.
