TOURIST VISA FOR INDIA

  1. ACTUAL PASSPORT

    You must send your actual passport. The visa will be stamped on a page in your passport. Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity left beyond your intended stay, and must have at least 2 blank visa pages side by side. Amendment pages (pages 22, 23 and 24) do not count.

  2. E-VISA APPLICATION FORM FOR INDIA

    Each applicant must complete and print out a visa application form online. Click here for e-Visa Application Form for India. Signature on visa application must be original. Fax copy or email copy will not be accepted.

    Applicants should provide home, work and mobile numbers if employed. If unemployed, provide at least two contact numbers on e-Visa Application.

    Address of reference in India must be complete with the area code and phone number. Address where applicant stayed during previous visit must be complete with the phone number.

  3. INDIAN VISA PROCESSING ORDER FORM

    Complete and submit an Indian Visa Processing Order Form.

  4. TWO PHOTOGRAPHS

    Each applicant should submit two 2" x 2" color photographs. Photos must be with a plain white background. Photocopy of picture from passport will not be accepted. EYEGLASSES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE PHOTO.

  5. COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE

    Effective Jan 14, 2010, all applicants must include a photocopy of birth certificate. Non-U.S. born applicants should submit a birth certificate or any government issued document from the country of origin that has parents' name, date of birth and nationality. Such documents must be translated into English and notarized.

  6. PROOF OF RESIDENCY

    Photocopy of state issued I.D. (e.g. driver's license), or photocopy of utility bill.

  7. PROOF OF U.S. STATUS (For non-U.S. citizen only)

    Non-U.S. citizen should submit proof of U.S. status (e.g. copy of U.S. permanent resident card or copy of U.S. visa).

  8. COPY OF BOTH PARENTS' PASSPORTS (For minors only)

    Copy of both parents' passports must be submitted with minor's application.

  9. CONSULATE FEE

    Consulate fees are as follows:

    • $38.00 per visa - Transfer valid visa from expired passport to new passport
    • $73.00 per visa - 6 Month Multiple Entry*
    • $163.00 per visa - 5 Year Multiple Entry*
    • $163.00 per visa - 10 Year Multiple Entry*

    *For multiple entry visas for India, there should be a gap of at least 2 months between two visits. If you are required to visit India within 2 months, click here to apply for a permit to re-enter India within 2 months.

    Visas issued to all non U.S. citizen are limited to 6 month multiple entry only.

    Please note that the Consulate of India reserves the right to issue a visa that has less validity than requested and paid for. In this case, the difference in the consulate fees will be retained at the consulate and will not be refunded. The consulates are being extremely selective about giving 10 year visas.

  10. SERVICE FEE

    $39.00 per visa - 2 week processing
    $75.00 per visa - 7 business day processing

    Processing time commences from the day the application submitted to the consulate. Saturdays, Sundays and Consulate scheduled holidays do not count as processing day.

    Processing time for applicant who is of Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sri Lanka origin, or applicant whose parent is of Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sri Lanka origin, is about 6 - 8 weeks. Rush processing is not available.

    Government approval is required for all non U.S. citizen who do not hold a U.S. permanent resident card. In this case, rush processing will not be available. The processing time usually takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

  11. RETURN FEDEX EXPRESS

    $23.00 per address (up to 3 passports)
    $28.00 per address (4 to 6 passports)
    $35.00 per address (Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico or Saturday Delivery)

NOTE:

  • Applicants who were born in India must provide the actual Indian passport, or a copy of a previous Indian visa and the vital page of the passport that the visa was issued in.

  • Effective from Feb 1, 2008, applications for those who belong to the specified categories mentioned below will take at least two weeks:

    • Conventional Munitions

    • Missile/Missile Technology
    • Aircraft and Missile Propulsion and Vehicular Systems
    • Navigation and Guidance Control
    • Chemical and Biotechnology Engineering
    • Remote Imaging and Reconnaissance
    • Advanced Computer Material
    • Advance Composite Material
    • Information Security
    • Laser and Directed Energy Systems
    • Sensors
    • Marine Technology (submarines etc)
    • Robotics
    • Advanced Ceramics
    • High Performance Metals and Alloys and or with establishment engaged in defense, research, nuclear, space and missile technology

    Apart from submitting their passport and online visa application, applicants who belong to the above categories should submit the following information as well:

    • Full name;
    • Date and Place of Birth;
    • Field of study, occupation or specialization;
    • Recent research work/publications, if any;
    • Employment history in the past five years;
    • Current employer's contact address and phone number;
    • Purpose of visit to India;
    • Whether the visit is sponsored by USG;
    • Whether there is any official government of India invitation;
    • Contact details of organizations to be visited in India (list each);
    • Applicant's contact address and telephone number in India.
